With the assistance of an interpreter, a doctor informed Harry Woosley, Jr., a deaf Marylander, that he was HIV+. Once Mr. Woosley received his diagnosis, the doctor and the interpreter left the room, providing him with no further information. At that time, deaf individuals had no HIV education available to them in American Sign Language, their native language, nor were there materials made for this population. Mr. Woosley fended for himself against an unknown disease.
